Tara McPhersen for Hello Kitty

So about a month ago I was browsing the sale section at Urban Outfitters and came across this lovely for 75% off!!! Its like the most perfect thing ever. Triple branding by my favorites : Tara McPhersen, Hello Kitty and Kid Robot. At the time though I was on a date with my awesome fiance and super broke. I had to make a choice. Buy the kitty or take my wonderful boy out for crepes. Well of course I took him out for crepes because I love him but pitifully I can't say it wasn't without struggle. While the crepe and the company was fantastic, I have to say my kokoro (heart) broke just a tiny bit by what I felt would be the last time I would ever see that kitty.

Now fast forward to two days ago. My sweetie lost the screw in his glasses and was the sporting the geeky tape look. Ha! We were forced to go to the mall to get it fixed and much to his chagrin. While there of course we had to stop in at Anthropolgie and UO and browse the sale sections. (Can you really call the markdowns Anthro has sales though? To me its what there prices should start at but that's a whole other topic.) So anyway, we go to UO and I was not even thinking about my lost love but my fiance bring me the last Tara McPhersen Hello Kitty doll there was! Like it was waiting for me. Of course I was at same point of having no money and it was either buy the doll or buy my sweetie a pretzel. This time I was totally selfish (and he was ok with that!) So now Kitty is safe and sound in my home and oh so happy! Long story about nothing huh? lol

Also another toy I found in the series was a chococat by Junko Mizuno and normally I would be all over that but its a bit too strange even for me. Love Junko though!

Lucky Peach

For awhile now I have had this strange obsession with all things Momofuku. I have the cookbook but the recipes are so hardcore and time consuming that I had never actually tried to make one. I also searched everywhere online and actually came up with a pretty good collection of Momofuku Milk Bar recipes. But once I had them I felt too guilty making any of the desserts for the sheer amount of butter and sugar they require.

I guess I'm not really sure why I'm obsessed with Momofuku but with me they somehow have a fan for life! So yesterday my boyfriend comes home with a present for me bragging that I will love it and that it is "brand new" like right out-of-the-box brand new. So I get all excited and he comes home with this magazine that has some guy dangling a raw chicken by the feet on the cover. Thinking to myself  "eww this is weird why am I excited?" until he points to the top of the magazine where is says " The new food quarterly from Momofuku's David Change" which triggers a squeal of excitement and a big kiss for my boyfriend!

This magazine is awesome. The artwork is gorgeous, the entire magazine this issue is dedicated to ramen including an article about the Japanese godfathers of ramen and where to go to get the best. (My boyfriend and I have decided when we go to Japan we will just buy a rail pass and travel by where the ramen takes us.)
Then just to add to its greatness, the magazine incorporates another of my favorites: Anthony Bourdain. Better yet David Chang, Anthony Bourdain and WD-50 owner Wylie Dufresne drunk in Spain ranting about mediocrity.

Can it get any better? Yes! Being a food magazine there has to be recipes. Being that it is from Momofuku, they are out of the ordinary but surprisingly not as advanced or time intensive as the recipes in his cookbook. Some are as simple as making a potato chip dip out of sour cream and ramen flavor packets.

I truly hope that enough people are interested to keep this magazine alive. I can see it being pretty targeted to a certain specific demographic but it really is a page turner and one of the few magazines in a long time to get me excited to read it. Their passion for food and pushing the boundaries just makes it inspiring to read.
